Adenocarcinoma of the Vermiform Appendix



Abstract
The primary carcinoma of the vermiform appendix is rare disease, with the incidence.¢¥0. 08% of all appendectomized cases.
The classification of the primary appedniceal carcinoma is by Viklein and Mc Donald as(l) carcinoid type; 88.2%, (2) cystadenocarcinoma; 8.3%, and(3) colonic type of the adenocarcinoma; 3.5%.
The adenocarcinoma of the vermiform appendix is very similar in apperance to the adenocarcinoma of the colon.
The adenocarcinoma of the vermiform appendix is found most commonly in the fifth and sixth decades, and is greater preponderance of men to women.
The adenocarcinoma of the vermiform appendix is treated by simple appendectomy, and if the cecum or terminal ileum are grossly involved, the hemicolectomy is advised.
A case of the adenocarcinoma of the vermiform appendix is reported with a brief review of literature.
